Creating Audio Visual Displays

Hello there! My name is Darren and I work in the marketing department of a large retailer. Recently, I was asked to put on an event which would feature the latest brands from out new product line. I had drawn up the guest list and found the ideal space when I suddenly realised I would need music and a video display. I had 24-hours to source the equipment and I was in a real panic. Thankfully, my friend brought along some equipment from his place of work and taught me how to set it up. I learnt an awful lot about audio and visual stuff that night.

Which Style of Headphones Is Right for You?

by Jorge Brewer

With everybody now carrying around their entire music collection in their pockets, the necessity to own a great pair of headphones increases every day.  Cheap headphones are available at a wide variety of different stores if you're not picky, but even among these, there are several different options to choose from.  If you have a bigger budget, the options get even broader.  So how exactly do you make a decision with regards to which style of headphones you buy?  Well, that can depend on various factors.  Here are just a few.

How Long Will You Be Listening?

If you're going to be wearing your headphones for a long time, a big over-ear set may begin to ache - especially if you're a glasses-wearer.  Choosing a set of earbuds, whether you go for an in-ear or on-ear pair, will likely be much more comfortable for you.  Be sure to select a pair that fit your ears in particular.  Many in-ear headphones come with a selection of heads to switch between in order to facilitate this good fit.

Do You Want to Block External Noise?

If you're trying to completely block out outside noise - perhaps if you're studying at home, or travelling - then an in-ear pair of headphones will serve you best.  Second to this, find an over-ear set that is specifically advertised as being 'noise cancelling' for the best results.  However, if you do need some outside noise, perhaps for safety purposes if you're walking outside, then an on-ear pair will suit you best.  For those with bigger budgets, models that sit out of the ears and project sound in the direction of your ears are an excellent option, allowing you to hear your music as well as all the surrounding noise.

Will You Be Active in Them?

If you're going to be cycling or working out at the gym while wearing your headphones, then in-ear buds are an excellent option.  They're less likely than on-ear headphones to come loose as you move around, and they're not as heavy or intrusive as over-ear headphones.  Just be sure to find a pair with a nice long wire, and ensure the wire is fed carefully through your clothes so that you can avoid interference with your workout.

Above all, if you're spending a lot of money on a pair of headphones, you should be absolutely certain that they're comfortable to wear.  Head to an audio store and actually put the sample set on before you make any purchases.  That way, you'll know that the product you're wearing is not only comfortable, but fits your personal head shape well, and delivers a sound quality you're happy with.  Talk to professionals like Tivoli Hi-Fi Pty Ltd for more information.
